My take on the Nordics – Otto Schauman

Taking on the task to head Storebrand AM’s new Helsinki office will be a fresh start for Otto Schauman after almost a decade at rival Abrdn. FBNW asked him about the best and worst parts of working with Nordic investors and what are some of the key ESG challenges at the moment among Nordic investors.

Storebrand’s asset management arm continues to extend its Nordic footprint beyond its home markets of Norway and Sweden. The latest addition to its growing number of offices in the Nordics is in the heart of Helsinki where the asset manager opened a new office this month. The move follows the establishment of Storebrand AM’s Copenhagen office in 2020. Otto Schauman will be heading the firm’s Finnish operations. He joins from the Scottish asset manager Abrdn where he worked for almost a decade, most recently heading its Finnish operations. He also has several years of experience working as a relationship manager at DNB Bank, as well as with equity derivatives sales at Société Générale in London.

What attracted you to your current job?A variety of things attracted me to Storebrand Asset Management. Perhaps first and foremost, the company has a very clear Nordic strategy. By opening a branch in Helsinki, I think Storebrand is showing strong commitment to the local market. It’s also in line with the aim of being a truly pan-Nordic asset manager and I believe Storebrand offers products that are a good fit with the local market. The firm’s long-term commitment to sustainable solutions really appeals to me. I was also impressed by the corporate culture conveyed to me during the interview process
