Kåpan’s Marie Giertz prepares for CEO promotion


Marie Giertz, chief investment officer of Kåpan Tjänstepension, looks back at some of the changes to the investment portfolio as she gets ready to take on the role as CEO of the Swedish pension fund.

From the beginning of February, Marie Giertz will be taking over the job as CEO of Kåpan Tjänstepension, Kåpan Government Employees Pension Fund. Her promotion from the chief investment officer role comes as the Swedish pension fund’s long-term CEO Gunnar Balsvik is set to retire, having held the position since 2003.

Commenting on the promotion, Marie Giertz says: “I’m very glad that I got the opportunity and that the board went for continuity. They obviously believe that things are working well and it feels great to take on the CEO role and continue the work together with great colleagues.” It remains to be seen whether her appointment will lead to any changes. “There’s time to consider whether we need to make any organizational changes but for now, it’s business as usual,” she says.
