Some big news this week was that Marie Giertz is leaving her position as CEO at Kåpan Tjänstepension for personal reasons after only a few months in the job. ”Marie has been a valued member at Kåpan for many years and has done a great job as CEO. We thank her for her valuable contributions and wish her well going forward,” says Ann Follin, chairman at Kåpan Tjänstepension.
Marie Giertz joined the pension fund in 2016 from a position as chief economist at the Swedish Export Credit Corporation but previously worked for more than a decade at the Swedish pension and insurance company Länsförsäkringar. At Kåpan Tjänstepension, which is the occupational pension fund for state employees with some 900 000 members, she initially spent less than a year as chief economist before taking on the role as chief investment officer. We did a longer interview with Marie Giertz at the end of last year which you find here.
A newsletter appeared in our inbox this week from McKinsey, highlighting an article published on July 9 – “The European asset management industry: Navigating volatile times”. The consultancy writes: “European asset managers should consider accelerating the pace of their strategies and business models. Typical priorities include sharpening the value proposition to both captive and third-party clients; taking stock of distribution footprint, product range, and growth initiatives; finding the right approach to participate in alternative investments; and using technology to improve efficiency, resilience, and scalability.”
Another news item from the international scene came from global fintech company Broadridge Financial Solutions who announced that it’s set to acquire Acolin, a European provider of cross-border fund distribution and regulatory services. In a press release the company says that the acquisition “will create a robust pan-European fund distribution network, facilitating broader, more efficient access to investors and distribution partners while supporting the ongoing transformation and efficiency of fund distribution for asset managers worldwide”.
Also, if you are currently between jobs (or looking for something new) and if ESG is your area of expertise, Danish pension fund LD is currently looking for a senior analyst to its investment team.
And finally – some thoughtful insights for the marketing people out there. Attention spans aren’t decreasing as outlined by Mark Ritson on LinkedIn.
