Taking another look at gender balance ten years later

I’m sure many of our readers have picked up the social media trend where people focus on nostalgia for 2016. We therefore decided that it made sense for us to kick off this article series by flicking through our own archive and pick up an issue from 2016 to see what we wrote back then.

One story that grabbed our attention was our research of gender balance among the largest asset owners in the Nordic region – “A closer look at gender balance”. In that story it was concluded that 90 per cent of CEOs and CIOs at the five biggest asset owners in the Nordic region were men. Reviewing the board composition at these asset owners it was revealed that women accounted for 38 per cent of board members back in 2016. As we updated the research in the beginning of 2026, we found that the balance has improved significantly among CEOs and CIOs.
