Women in finance – Anna Hyrske

With a long career in ESG behind her, Anna Hyrske looks back at how she ended up in her current job as the principal responsible investment specialist at the Bank of Finland and some of the inspiring people she has met along the way.

Anna Hyrske heads the ESG efforts at the Bank of Finland, which joined the PRI as one of the first Central Banks in the world in December 2019. She has a long career that spans over two decades as an ESG analyst and head of ESG at the largest Finnish pension company Ilmarinen. Having authored books about responsible investments and travelled all over the world to give lectures, she is considered as one of the ESG pioneers in Finland.

  WHAT DID YOU DREAM OF BECOMING AS A CHILD? To be honest, it was nothing glamorous, such as a princess or a lawyer. The first dream job I had was to become a police dog puppy. I know it sounds silly but my excuse was that my older sister wanted to be a baby-tamer, so I think my dream sort of fitted this picture somehow. I still sometimes hear about it from some of my relatives who might ask “How is the police dog puppy doing?”. HOW DID YOU END UP IN YOUR CURRENT JOB? For a long time,
