Just a week after announcing the forthcoming appointment, Alecta’s supervisory board retracted the proposal due to a perceived conflict of interest from another board appointment. As the former governor of the Danish central bank as well as a former long-term CEO of the Danish pension fund ATP, the news of Lars Rohde’s nomination gained significant traction in both Sweden and Denmark.
Carina Åkerström, former CEO of Handelsbanken, is now set to take on the role as chairman of the SEK 1186 billion (EUR 105.5 billion) Alecta instead of Lars Rohde. This represents the latest twist and turn at the Swedish pension company that is looking to recover from a very difficult 2023 that started with the news about its large holdings in the three failed US regional banks last spring.
